Lectures and School Projects

Animal Welfare in the Polytechnical School in Ypps

Animal Care Austria was invited to return to the Polytechnical School in Ypps for another animal welfare lecture by ACA President, Carol Byers.

After sharing thoughts about animal welfare, the environment, vegan food and lifestyle (including a vegan fashion show), the students presented ACA with 963 Euros which they earned through their craft and bake sales. Four big, beautiful dog houses were also build by the students and were transported gratis by a local transport company to ACA’s Care Station in Hungary.

ACA wishes to thank everyone who took part in this wonderful day, and especially to Polytechnical School teacher Birgit Karner for her tireless engagement in animal welfare and environment topics.

Many thanks to school director Katharina Tschirk and Neufeld Elementary School for supporting our dogs!

In the course of their CLASS DOG projects, the children were also informed about animal welfare in general and have raised donations for "their" dog. These were handed over to ANIMAL CARE AUSTRIA President Carol Byers on World Animal Conservation Day.

If you also want to start a CLASS DOG project at your school, we will be happy to support you!

Bilingual guest lecture on animal welfare in the Laaerberggymnasium

In school year 2016/2017, ANIMAL CARE AUSTRIA was requested by committed, animal-loving high school students (team leader Mag. Cilek),to hold a bilingual guest lecture (English/ German) on animal protection in the Laaerberggymnasium in 1100 Vienna.

The students were very well-prepared and attentively listed to reports from ANIMAL CARE AUSTRIA President, Carol Byers. After the informative and very touching lecture, the students had a chance to ask questions. The allotted time for the question/answer period was greatly extended due to the lively communication and exchange of views.

It was great experiencem to be a part of this school project. To stand up for the weaker, in this case animals, cannot start early enough!

The Dream Team from Elementary School Class 2c

May 2016. A big thank you goes to the students of the 2c, elementary school Kleine Sperlgasse! Together with their teacher Bianca Baldreich (a member of ACA) they organized an animal welfare festival in which over 400 children and parents took part. Thanks also go to the school director Nicolina Bösch for supporting this event.

The children of the 2c elementary school Kleine Sperlgasse are proof that children and animals go together wonderfully. Animal welfare has been an important topic since the beginning of the first grade and appears again and again in different ways in the classroom. With a lot of passion and commitment, the students gained a great deal of knowledge about the origin of animal products. They can also differentiate between real and fake fur, know the characteristics of a vegan lifestyle and know about animal testing in the cosmetics sector.

The strong, recurring desire of the children to do something good for animals led to the idea of an animal welfare festival at which donations for Animal Care Austria would be collected. The idea of animal welfare also appears again and again in the numerous stories of the children, which have been bundled and summarized in an animal welfare book.

The idea of the animal welfare festival proves that everyone can make their contribution to animal welfare. For children in particular, this experience proves that even the smallest ones can create something big with a little support and thus, make an active contribution to animal welfare.

A quote from the Dalai Lama sums it up well: "If you think that you are too small to make a difference, try to sleep when a mosquito is in the room."

300 Euros! Many Thanks to Michelle Weinberger and the students in the Vienna Business School, 1080, Project Group 2BL.

Januar 2015. In the summer of 2014, Michelle Weinberger’s family adopted two Animal Care Austria dogs. As a “thank you” to ACA for these two wonderful dogs, and for ACA’s animal welfare work, Michelle spoke with her teacher and student colleagues about a school project to support ACA. The project “Schenken wir Hunden hoffnungsvolle Stunden” was a big success. (Read more here. PDF German)

Thank you, Michelle, and thank you to your project advisor, Mag. Regina Heidenhofer, and project team: Dominig Hartung, Stefan Bitt, Hans Gössinger, Alexander Bobek, and Karin Fleischhacker. It is truly wonderful when so many young people get involved in “caring.”
