Rescue & Rehabilitation Station "Kóborka" in Lovasberény

Carol Byers, founder and president of Animal Care Austria, made her first animal welfare trip to Hungary in 2006. During a CARE DAY project in Paks, she met Bora Horwath, the founder and director of the Animal Welfare Organization "Kóborka". At that time Bora Horwath, a well-known figure in Hungarian animal welfare activism, was not only in search of a parcel of land for an animal shelter in the vicinity of Budapest, but also required the support of an animal welfare partner-organization. In 2007 Bora Horwath was able to realize her dream with the Rescue & Rehabilitation Station "Kóborka" in Lovasberény: a home for her rescued dogs, made possible with the support of Animal Care Austria.

Since 2007, Animal Care Austria has made weekly visits to Bora's animal shelter, delivering dogfood, doghouses, matresses, blankets, leashes and collars, medical necessities, etc. ACA provided financial assistance to Kóborka for the heating system, tiling for the post-operation room, the construction of kennels, reparation of the entry road, auto repairs, puppy stations, castrations, dog training, medical care, operations, Care Days, adoptions and the "Improving the Human-Animal Relationship" project (web-forum and advertisement for better relations between humans and animals).

Hundreds of these “Kóborka”-dogs have already been adopted by loving families in Austria.  Saving animals' lives is a costly endeavor.  It is also an investment of the heart to feed rescued dogs, give them shelter, and pay for their medical care, until they are adopted.  We need your support to continue our work with our Rescue & Rehabilitation Station "Kóborka" in Lovasberény!
