Water for animals

Water is Life - Faridabad/Indien

Project Summer Lifeline – An initiative of People for Animals Trust Faridabad lead by Ravi Dubey.

Summer Lifeline project provides fresh water to street animals. Donated pre-installed water tubs and troughs in many locations are filled by the People for Animals water truck with drinking water for stray animals and birds in the city of Faridabad.. Water is life. The People for Animals Trust Faridabad team cleans the tubs and fresh water is provided year round. The scarcity of water everywhere, and the lack of clean drinking water during the summer 45 degree weather leads to dehydration and the death of thousands of animals and birds in the city. This wonderful water initiative is truly a lifeline for homeless animals.

The Summer Lifeline project was begun in 2015. Ravi Dubey was awarded by the district administration Faridabad on Republic day, in January, 2020, a Commendation Certificate for this outstanding work in the care of stray animals. This certificate was presented by the Agriculture Minister of the Government of Haryana in the presence of the Deputy Commissioner of Faridabad and the Commissioner of Police, Faridabad.

Animal Care Austria has supported People for Animals Trust Faridabad's street dog castration program since 2015. We are proud to be a part of this water for animals project.

Water for Cows - Puttaparthi/Indien

Cows and buffalo roam the streets of India. Many are sick or injured - most of them can no longer produce milk. When they are no longer useful to their previous owners, they are simply disposed of. They eat tons of plastic in search of food. In the drought months, water is almost impossible to find.

“To rescue one cow is a huge commitment as it needs to be taken care of till the end of its life!”

This is what Animal Care Austria’s animal welfare partner organization, the Karuna Society, in Puttaparthi does. Street- Cattle rescues and sterilization began in 2002 and some of the rescued cows and buffaloes have become very old during their years with Karuna.

ACA was impressed with Karuna Society’s philosophy:
“Maybe Karuna is the only cow shelter in India and in the world where cows are free from most human interference. They are not tied up, they move freely in the herd, graze in the forest and they are not kept for profit; no milk, only the dung is sold. We believe that the sterilization of cows and buffaloes is a good management tool to limit the numbers for the already overcrowded Gaushala's in India.”

Summer Droughts

The biggest struggle every year is the summer drought. Food and water is scarce. Huge expenses result from the purchase of enough fodder and water to sustain the animals during these months

Animal Care Austria was already committed to Karuna’s street dog castration program (ABC = animal birth control project). After visiting this wonderful project at the Cattle Rescue Center, ACA further committed to Karuna by helping to sponsor the precious gift of water to sustain the ongoing lives of rescued street cows and buffaloes.
