Petra Kucera

Petra grew up in Vienna and was always a big animal lover. During her childhood and teenage years, Petra spent one month every summer in Greece where she saw the suffering of homeless street dogs and cats. She and her mother did everything they could to try to care for the animals during their stay. When the month was over, departure time was always very sad for the young Petra. After several summers in Greece, Petra was finally able to convince her father to let her take a homeless cat to Vienna, and she was very happy with her first pet. Sometime later, she adopted a second cat, and at the end of 2016, while looking through dog advertisements with a former work colleague, the idea of having her own dog became real.

Petra met Carol in December of 2016 in Lovasbereny, Hungary, when she accompanied her newly retired work colleague who was adopting Marlon and Brando, 2 rescued dogs from Svilos, Serbia. Petra was impressed with how engaged and loving Carol and Bora, the head of the shelter in Lovasberény, were with the many dogs. During this trip she met Odin, a 7 month old mixed breed puppy who suffered health problems and had already undergone 2 operations. Petra knew that she wanted to help Odin and ACA, and in the following weeks, Odin was constantly on her mind. In the next months, Petra accompanied Carol several times to help with ACA’s weekly shelter visits, and of course, to see Odin again. In May of 2017, Petra became part of the ACA team, and Odin became a part of her family – first, however, as a foster dog to see how her cats would react to a new family member. Luckily for everyone, everything went well, and Odin was officially adopted in July.

Petra is a part of the ACA daily dog advertising team. Every time she sees a new adoption photo and reads a new Happy Story, she feels greatly rewarded for volunteering her time in helping homeless animals find a loving family.
